Adrien de Gerlache, Belgian Antarctic Expedition on the ship Belgica, 1897 - 1899.
1898 - Emile Danco, a Belgian Magnetician died during the first Antarctic overwintering on board the Belgica. He died of heart failure with probably a long-existing undiagnosed condition. His body was lowered to the sea through a hole cut in the ice.
