Robert Falcon Scott, British Antarctic Expedition (South Pole Expedition) on the ship Terra Nova, 1910 - 1913.

1911 - Dennis Lillie, biologist on the Terra Nova with a glass sponge. In 1918 he had a mental breakdown, he spent 42 of his 79 years in hospitals in part paid by Scott's Memorial Fund. His 3 years spent on the ship in and around Antarctica were his happiest. Meares called him “the lovely, laughing Lillie”



Adrien de Gerlache, Belgian Antarctic Expedition on the ship Belgica, 1897 - 1899.

1897 - SY Belgica leaves Antwerp, Belgium under the command of Adrien de Gerlache with Roald Amundsen and Frederick Cook amongst the crew, they will be the first to overwinter in Antarctica.
