Ernest Shackleton, Trans Antarctic Expedition on the ship Endurance, 1914 - 1917.

1915 - The Endurance is trapped in pack ice in the Weddell Sea at 76°34'S, as one crew member described it:

"Like an almond in a piece of toffee".
