Ernest Shackleton, Trans Antarctic Expedition on the ship Endurance, 1914 - 1917.
1915 - After their ship had sunk in the sea-ice, some of Shackleton's men set out on a scouting expedition with dog teams and sledges attempt to find a path to land. Sea-ice pushed up into enormous ridges and humps makes progress difficult to say the least. Colourized photo.
