On This Day in Antarctica - Today's Entry
Historical Antarctic Pictures and Events

A collection of events and pictures from Antarctica's past on the day that they happened or that the photographs were taken, mostly from the Heroic Age 1898-1920.

Sometimes it's not the exact day if referring to something that happened "in April" for instance but whatever is described or depicted would have been happening on that day as well as others at that time. Alternatively if the photograph does show a particular event but the exact date is not clear I've put it as close as my best guess allows. More often photographs have been dated or can be easily dated from records of events in diaries or expedition journals.

There's not currently an entry for every day but I am working on it, there were around 270/366 the last time I counted. The summer months in Antarctica of November to March have more entries as this is when it is possible to get out and do more, April to October have more days without entries as shorter days and weather mean staying in more.
