Robert Falcon Scott, British Antarctic Expedition (South Pole Expedition) on the ship Terra Nova, 1910 - 1913.

1911 - A pony camp on Scott's expedition on the Great Ice Barrier (now known as the Ross Ice Shelf). Note the wall made from snow blocks that was built on arrival to shield the animals from the worst of the wind.


1928 - Roald Amundsen leader of the first team to the South Pole disappears in a seaplane with 5 others during a rescue flight for the crashed airship Italia making an attempt on the North Pole over the Barents Sea, some wreckage is found, but no bodies are ever recovered. This picture taken on this day is the last known photograph of Roald Amundsen.
