Robert Falcon Scott, British Antarctic Expedition (South Pole Expedition) on the ship Terra Nova, 1910 - 1913.
1912 - l-r Robert Forde, Frank Debenham, Thomas Griffith Taylor, Tryggve Gran just after being picked up by the Terra Nova while walking across sea-ice back to base. 3 weeks after their due pick-up didn't arrive they started to walk, they were seen on the ice by the ship about 2 weeks later.

1912 - Tom Crean walks 35 miles across deep snow and crevasses alone to save the life of Edward Evans.

1903 - Still un-relieved by their ship, a storm from the south froze the sea round Snow Hill Island forcing Nordenskjold and 5 other men to spend a second winter with no new supplies. 400 penguins, 30 seals and skuas had been taken for food and fuel for the forthcoming winter.
