Roald Amundsen, Norwegian South Pole Expedition on the ship Fram, 1910 - 1912.

1911 - Amundsen leaves Framheim on his second attempt to reach the South Pole before Scott and his party. There are 5 men, 4 sledges and 52 dogs, it will take them 56 days to reach the pole and 38 days to return.

"At last we have got away, Amundsen, Hanssen, Wisting, Hassel, Bjaaland, four sledges and 52 dogs. The sledges are light our supplies are at 80°S, we sit astride the sledges and flourish our whips with a jaunty air. Prestrud turning the crank on the cinematograph as we pass."
