Ernest Shackleton, British Antarctic Expedition on the ship Nimrod, 1907- 1909.
1908 - The first motor car taken to Antarctica here preparing for a depot laying journey to support the party to the magnetic pole. The car was useful in the right conditions but the wheels would often slip and it was unreliable.
