Ernest Shackleton, Trans Antarctic Expedition on the ship Endurance, 1914 - 1917.

1916 - The Endurance life boats reach Elephant Island the first landfall for 497 days.

".. laughing uproariously.., smiles.., pebbles treated like gold, first land in 18 months"

It had not been possible to heat any food on the seven days spent in the boats, so there followed a big breakfast of hot milk, huge sealsteaks, unlimited blubber, and all day long eating and drinking.
