Douglas Mawson, Australasian Antarctic Expedition on the ship Aurora, 1911 - 1914.
1913 - Xavier Mertz, Swiss, in charge of sled dogs dies in a tent 100 miles from the main base with Douglas Mawson, he is the second of the 3 man team to die. The cause of death was probably vitamin A poisoning from eating husky dog livers.
